The Mise-en-scene of this promo is
rather dark, however, this is not to say there is bad lighting. The Smoke in this shot actually reflects the lighting, brightening
the mise-en-scene as well as revealing the band members more. This then also
links in with the idea of mise-en-scene being futuristic and semi resembling a
alien space ship. This then links directly to the genre of music, which is
electro rock/ alternative rock, this reinforces the electro sounds of the song.
There are many elements of
cinematography within this promo. One of the major elements is camera movement.
This is present all the way through this promo but is also cut with many
different types of shot such as long shots, mid shots and close ups. These are used
through all of the promo in different ways, for example, the main singing parts
are shown in mid and long shots, showing the singer performing with the band as
well as showing physical movement. Close us are predominantly used during the rapping parts of
the promo as it shows mouth movement and seems to speed it up. Extreme
longshots are used less, but are used to show the band performing together.
The editing is very predominantly based on post production effects than shot to shot editing. This is evident mostly in the second half of the promo as we get heavy visual fire and electric effects on the band members, this also relates back to song lyrics of “burn it down” as it talks about burning things to the ground, thus use of fire, but also the electric effects are once again showing of the genre as the electric effects signify the electro rock genre. The editing is also medium and fast paced throughout, getting faster as the promo goes on, also getting faster as the post production effects amplify. However, there are very few shot to shot editing differences from the standard straight cut. However, this amplifies the pace of the promo as well non distoriting the already distorted image, so this could also be seen as a counter to heavy visuals
There is no narrative to this
promo, however it does serve as a performance advertiser for the band. This
could also be seen as a catalogue of reference as it shows every single one of
the members of the band at different parts throughtout the
promo, so we get to see what they look like and what instruments each of them
play.
